Health Insurance
All resorts should have their employees under a health insurance scheme. Do you know anything about the health plan you are under? Has your HR department made any effort to let you know this information without you asking for it?
We believe that all employees should be under an insurance scheme. Unfortunately, we have seen some resorts provide foreign employees with health insurance due to government regulation and not provide the same benefit to the local employee due to the Maldivian government covering all locals under the Aasandha program. We strongly disagree with this practice and call for those resorts to consider what their thought process is when implementing such a system.
All employers should be properly informed of what they are covered for and how they are able to make use of their health insurance. This is the duty of the HR department.
From what we have seen, employees are rarely, if ever informed about what their health insurance is and what is covered by it unless they proactively seek this information.
As employees, find out what you are entitled to, and HR professionals we strongly urge you to improve how you are communicating information as vital as this to the employees under your care.
