24 February 2023 – Tourism employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) have submitted a petition to the Minister of Economic Development, Mr Fayyaz Ismail on the subject of allowing all resort workers who wish to keep a beard to be able to keep them. 

The Maldives Labour Relations Authority, LRA comes under the Ministry of Economic development as well. 

Beards are a part of Maldivian culture and shaving daily is an issue many young Maldivian who work in the industry disagree with. Shaving is an issue that some Maldivians stand with so strongly that they would even be deterred from a career in the industry for this single issue. 

We applaud the effort by TEAM and the union resorts to organize and speak up for all tourism workers.
